BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – In its commitment to provide personable, accessible and high-quality healthcare to the community, Oaklawn is excited to announce the opening of Oaklawn Specialty Care in Battle Creek.
The facility at 5352 Beckley Road Suite A is conveniently located near Interstate 94 and situated next door to Oaklawn Express Care. The specialty clinic currently offers orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, pulmonology, mammography, and x-ray services. After the first of the year, it will also include audiology, ear, nose, and throat, rheumatology, and lab draw services with more specialties on the horizon.
During a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 6, Oaklawn President and CEO Gregg Beeg said that the specialty care facility will help serve more people in Calhoun County.
“It’s a beautiful facility and we’re just elated to have it open,” Beeg said. “The staff has been looking forward to it, and obviously patients and the community have been looking forward to it too. It’s part of our mission to expand our services and this is right in line with our strategic plan.”
The opening of Oaklawn Specialty Care – Beckley Road marks further expansion into Battle Creek for the Marshall-based nonprofit hospital, which is independently owned with more than 300 providers representing 55 specialties. Oaklawn Express Care in Battle Creek opened in May of 2023, and the specialty care facility adds to Oaklawn’s longstanding services in the city, which include its Beadle Lake Road medical clinic.
Dr. Summer Liston-Crandall, chief medical officer for Oaklawn, noted that the Battle Creek express care facility has served more than 1,000 patients for three consecutive months, and having the specialty care clinic next door offers comfort and convenience for an increasing volume of patients.
“We want to make it convenient for patients who live nearby or who are maybe being seen next door at Oaklawn Express Care and need a follow up for an injury or any other condition that they can be seen here for,” Liston-Crandall said. “It really wraps up our continuum of care here in the Battle Creek market.”
Zach Chapman, executive director of Oaklawn Medical Group, added that improving access and expanding services will help improve health outcomes in Calhoun County.
“It’s exciting because it reduces some of the barriers that exist, whether that be transportation or financial means,” Chapman said. “It’s about being able to provide that quality excellent care to our patients here in Calhoun County. As we continue to look at underserved areas, it’s another opportunity to bring health care closer to the patient population.”
Oaklawn Specialty Care is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 269-558-0726.
