Otolaryngology is the medical specialty that deals with disorders of the ear, nose and throat (ENT), and surrounding areas of the head and neck.
What conditions does an ENT treat?
Conditions of the ear such as ringing in the ears (tinnitus), problems with balance, dizziness, ear infections, ear pain, difficulty or loss of hearing, swimmers ear, birth defects.
Conditions of the nose such as breathing problems, chronic sinusitis, nose bleeds, problems with smell, malformation of the sinus cavity (deviated septum) or problems associated with the sinuses and nasal cavity, asthma and allergies.
Conditions of the throat such as hoarseness, voice or swallowing problems, difficulties with digestion, and tonsil or adenoid infection.
Conditions related to the head and neck such as tumors, nerve conditions affecting sight, hearing and smell, and reconstruction from trauma or birth defects such as cleft palate.
