Oaklawn Opens Obstetrical Emergency Department with Labor and Delivery Leader Ob Hospitalist Group

OB hospitalist program aims to improve maternal and infant health outcomes and reduce delays in care through 24/7 onsite OB-GYN coverage

Marshall, MI – Oaklawn and Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) today announced a joint-partnership to provide women at all stages of pregnancy access to onsite emergency care from OB-GYN physicians 24-hours-a-day, every day.

The new OB hospitalist program expands existing services through onsite clinicians with immediate availability for emergency care and deliveries, unscheduled C-sections, patient evaluations and inpatient consults, pregnancy and postpartum emergencies, and discharges. The clinical staff, employed by OBHG, will collaborate with Oaklawn obstetricians to enhance patient care and outcomes.

“Our number one commitment is to the patients we serve,” said Dr. Summer Liston-Crandall, Oaklawn Chief Medical Officer.  “We know that by investing in critical resources like onsite clinicians to enhance our existing services, we can make a positive and long-lasting impact both on the patient and baby.”

The partnership builds on Oaklawn’s ongoing efforts to address maternal and infant health. Recruitment efforts are ongoing for OB/GYNs, midwives, and family practice physicians that also handle obstetric care. This will build providers and access to care for patients in need of obstetric services.

“Oaklawn shares our commitment to high standards and evidence-based best practices to improve maternal-infant outcomes, and we are excited to have them in our nationwide network of partner hospitals,” said Lenny Castiglione, Chief Executive Officer, Ob Hospitalist Group. “We are looking forward to caring for women and newborns in the region.”

About Oaklawn

Oaklawn was founded in 1925 as a 12-bed hospital in a residential home, funded by a group of visionary philanthropists. Now, almost ten decades later, we’ve evolved into a highly regarded regional health care organization, licensed for 77 acute care beds and a 17-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. We’ve continued to be an independently owned not-for-profit hospital, with our main campus residing on the same site as the original hospital, providing facilities, equipment and technology that are usually only found at larger health systems. We enjoy a reputation for advancing medicine and providing compassionate, personal care. Our service area includes Calhoun County and parts of Branch and Eaton counties with a medical staff of more than 300 providers representing over 55 specialties.
