Katherine Pestun Moore, DO, joins Oaklawn’s Marshall Primary Care

Oaklawn has announced that Katherine Pestun Moore, DO, has joined Marshall Primary Care, located in the Wright Medical Building at 215 E. Mansion St. Suite 1E. The office can be reached at 269-781-3938.

Pestun Moore, who is trained in family medicine with obstetrics, recently completed her residency at Sparrow Hospital.

“I have been a patient at Oaklawn for a long time – I was actually born at Oaklawn Hospital,” said Pestun Moore, who graduated from Olivet High School before attending Olivet College which today is called The University of Olivet. “A couple of doctors at Marshall Primary Care were prior graduates of Sparrow residency. Oaklawn was hiring, and my faculty were the first ones to throw out my name. I interviewed and loved it.”

Pestun Moore explains how she decided upon a career in medicine.

“As a pre-teen and teen, my mom was studying to become a nurse,” said Pestun Moore. “She felt that was her calling. Nursing school was really intense, and she was doing it part time. We would talk about what she was doing and that made me want to study medicine too. I wanted to learn as much as I could about medicine and that led me on the path to becoming a doctor.”

Pestun Moore will be seeing a wide range of patients at Marshall Primary Care, “but with obstetrics, I will be seeing a lot of younger families,” she noted. She is a proponent for breastfeeding and is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant.

“I do want to use my skills that I learned at Michigan State University, which include doing Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT),” she said, adding that she is also trained in joint injections, skin procedures and point of care ultrasound.

Family medicine, she said allows her the chance to truly get to know her patients.

“I am looking forward to forming relationships with my patients,” said Pestun Moore. “It becomes a lot more pleasurable when you have an office visit with someone you’ve seen multiple times, and you get to check in with them and see how they are doing on their health care journey.”

In her spare time Pestun Moore enjoys camping throughout Michigan and baking for friends and family.

She said that she is excited to start this new chapter with Oaklawn. Her studies have taken her away from the area for the last several years, and she is happy to join the community.

“Everyone I’ve met so far has been friendly and welcoming,” she said.” I know it is going to be a good fit.”
