Albion College Student Volunteer Bureau donates to Oaklawn

MARSHALL, Mich. — Oaklawn recently received approximately 85 comfort gift packages from the Albion College Student Volunteer Bureau, a student-led service organization dedicated to volunteerism and community outreach.

The thoughtfully assembled gifts were donated to Oaklawn’s Hospice and Oncology departments to provide comfort and encouragement to patients. Each package was personally decorated by student volunteers and filled with items designed to bring warmth and relaxation, including cozy socks, coloring books, colored pencils, lip balm, sachets, and candles.

The project was spearheaded by Leeah Cole, a member of the Albion College Student Volunteer Bureau, who contacted Oaklawn to explore ways the organization could support local patients through a meaningful community service initiative.

“The group of students was organizing an outreach project and wanted information on how they could donate to Oaklawn,” said Cindy Lake, Oaklawn Development Manager. “Leeah reached out with the idea of creating comfort packages for our patients, and we were incredibly touched by the thoughtfulness behind the project.”

The Albion College Student Volunteer Bureau is a student-run organization that coordinates volunteer opportunities and service projects throughout the community and currently includes more than 50 members.

“We are so grateful to Leeah and the members of the Albion College Student Volunteer Bureau for thinking of our patients and putting so much care into these meaningful gifts,” Lake said. “Their generosity and compassion will make a difference for many individuals and families receiving care through our Hospice and Oncology programs.”

The donation reflects the positive impact of community partnerships and the spirit of service demonstrated by local students who are committed to making a difference in the lives of others.
