Slap Bracelets

During the Marshall Christmas parade on November 27, 2023, Oaklawn Hospital, as part of the festivities, gave away slap bracelets with a holiday theme. Slap bracelets are a metal wristband covered with a protective fabric or coating that snap around a wrist when a small amount of pressure is applied to it. Slap bracelets are popular with children. Oaklawn has learned that if the protective fabric or coating is pierced by the metal wristband it may pose a risk of laceration to the wearer. Oaklawn is aware of one such instance involving the bracelets it gave away during the Christmas parade. Parents of children who attended the parade and received a slap bracelet to avoid risk of injury from the metal portion of the bracelet should consider removing the slap bracelet from their child’s possession and discarding it. Oaklawn has reported the matter to the vendor of the slap bracelets who said it would contact the manufacturer about this concern.
