Sheena L. Dover, MD, has joined Oaklawn Primary Care in Coldwater, located at 375 N. Willowbrook Road. The office can be reached at 517-924-1605.
Dover, who has a background in family medicine and obstetrics, moved to Michigan by way of Illinois with her family in mid-August and says, “it’s been a busy, but exciting few weeks.”
Originally from Southern Illinois, she attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and also SIU’s medical school in Springfield.
She moved to Memphis for fellowship training, which ultimately led her to Michigan.
Dover said she had been looking for a “really good fit” as a family medicine provider doing obstetrics, and Oaklawn fit the bill.
“FMOB is a unique combination,” said Dover. “It can be tough to find a right fit to align with the breadth of skills when obstetrics is included in your Family Medicine practice. I had been looking for some time, actually, to find a best fit and that’s how I found Oaklawn.”
Dover said she is looking forward to meeting her patients.
“I love helping women take care of themselves,” she said.
Seeing a wide range of patients and their various ailments, said Dover, is one of the biggest challenges of the job.
“You can walk into anything,” she said. “You can walk into a room with chest pain, and in the next room is a newborn baby.”
She noted that it is important to have support.
“It can be a search to find a cohort of colleagues who have the same skill set, and the support is important to the longevity of your career,” said Dover. “I was able to find that here with Oaklawn.”
Outside of work, she and her husband spend time with their four daughters.
“We like being outside, swimming, cooking and road trips,” said Dover.
Dover said not only is she excited to be part of the Oaklawn family, but she is also excited for her daughters.
“We are all excited to be here,” said Dover.
