Oaklawn to host 36th annual benefit auction with Friday the 13th theme
MARSHALL, MI – Oaklawn will embrace a little superstition for a good cause when it hosts its 36th annual Benefit Auction on Friday, March 13.
The fundraiser will support Oaklawn’s recently reopened oncology and hematology department, helping fund essential medical equipment for patient care.
This year’s theme is “Friday the 13th,” featuring a superstitious and mystical spin rather than a scary one. The evening will highlight symbols of luck — including four-leaf clovers and lucky pennies — as organizers invite the community to help strengthen local cancer services.
The event will begin with a two-week virtual silent auction opening Monday, March 2, and conclude with an in-person celebration from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 13 at Venue 19 Zero 9 in downtown Marshall.
Proceeds from the 2026 auction will help fund the purchase of two advanced patient beds, two specialized treatment recliners, five vital sign machines and an AccuVein site-selection device with a dedicated holder.
“I’m continually inspired by the passion and generosity of our community. Access to quality health care close to home is something everyone deserves,” said Cindy Lake, development manager at Oaklawn. “Even a $10 raffle ticket can make a difference. It’s our combined dollars that create a real impact for so many patients.
“It’s especially meaningful to see our employees giving back — whether they’re creating gift baskets, donating items, or a sponsorship. Even staff members outside of oncology are proudly supporting the Oaklawn family. Fingers crossed we have a record number of attendees because this is shaping up to be a truly fun and memorable evening.”
Over the past 36 years, the Benefit Auction has raised more than $3.3 million to support local health care initiatives.
The March 13 event will feature live music by JimJam, an acoustic duo featuring Jim Oliver and Jim Dyer, along with catered food and an open bar by Schuler’s Restaurant. There will also be roaming entertainment and a Lucky Penny game exclusive to attendees.
Auction items include firepits, sports memorabilia, event tickets, University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football tickets, golf packages, purses, tools, and jewelry. Two raffles will also be held: one features Shinola package valued at $4,630 and the other allows the winner to choose between $3,000 in custom jewelry from Hodges or $1,500 in cash. Raffle is open now and anyone may buy tickets.
Bidding for the virtual silent auction opens March 2 and closes at 8:30 p.m. March 13. Participants do not need to attend the in-person event to bid or win.
Tickets for the March 13 event are $100 each. Those unable to attend may make a donation in support of Oaklawn Oncology. For more information, to donate or to view auction items, visit oaklawnhospital.org/benefit-auction.
