Jennifer Wawzysko, AGNP-C, has joined Oaklawn Medical Group’s Beadle Lake Primary Care, located at 14231 Beadle Lake Road. The office can be reached by calling 269-962-0441.
Wawzysko, who has been a registered nurse for the last 13 years, recently completed her master’s degree at Spring Arbor University to become an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner.
Prior to joining Oaklawn’s Beadle Lake office, Wawzysko had been working in hospice care for the last two years.
However, she is no stranger to Oaklawn, having worked as a homecare RN case manager for two years and also at Oaklawn’s Wound Clinic from 2021 to 2022.
Wawzysko said she is looking forward to seeing and helping adult patients from age 18 and up and noted that her experiences working in home care and hospice will come in handy.
If there is one word of advice Wawzysko wants to share about her background in hospice, it’s this: arrange for a medical directive regardless of one’s age.
Wawzysko did her clinical work at Oaklawn through her program and finished last December, and joining the Oaklawn Medical Group team was a natural next step, she said, having done 500 clinical hours between the Beadle Lake office and the Albion office.
“Coincidentally, FNP-C Amy Babcock and I had worked together previously; she offered to be a preceptor for my clinical hours, and it just kind of transpired from there,” noted Wawzysko.
Wawzysko said she has always been interested in working in healthcare.
“I love teaching and sharing what I know with patients and making sure that patients are educated on their own health,” she said. “I believe if you have a vested interest in your health, you’re able to make the best decisions, and it starts with teaching patients. That’s why I am doing this. I’m hoping I can help patients work on the things that can improve their lives.”
Wawzysko noted that her daughter, who is 23, plans to start nursing school in the fall.
“I never pushed that on her and it’s exciting that she wants to follow my footsteps,” said Wawzysko, who also has a son who will start the aviation program at Western Michigan University in the fall.
Wawzysko grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School and went on to start her nursing education at Kellogg Community College.
In her spare time, she says she enjoys reading, working in the garden in the summer and spending time with her husband and kids.
As Wawzysko starts her next chapter with Oaklawn, she said she is “excited to be a part of a great team at the Beadle Lake office.”
“I’m eager to start this new chapter with Oaklawn and look forward to making a positive impact with my patients,” she said.
