Oaklawn Physical Rehabilitation recognizes the need to monitor and help patients in recovery following brain trauma, often called concussion. Concussions can occur in a multitude of ways including athletics, auto accidents and falls.
The Oaklawn Concussion Management Program is designed to provide physicians and patients with scientific data showing the level of impairment an athlete has suffered after concussion and provides a method of monitoring the healing process, so the patients’ return to participation in daily activities or sports is safer and with minimal side effects.
Oaklawn clinicians use a combination of ImPACT cognitive testing and BIODEX balance assessment to make Oaklawn’s Concussion Management Program so effective. Test scores can be compared to either baseline data or normative data in the event of a diagnosed head injury. Testing continues periodically until results return to baseline or normative levels. This data when combined with a thorough medical exam, provides the best evidence of when a patient is safe to return to his or her sport or normal activities. Oaklawn’s Concussion Management Program will provide testing results to the physician.
In addition to testing, therapists can provide treatment for side effects from a concussion such as neck pain or vestibular issues/dizziness.
