Joint Camp: Preparing for Total Knee, Hip, or Shoulder Surgery

Joint Camp is an educational appointment designed for patients scheduled to undergo total knee, total hip, or total shoulder replacement surgery. These sessions help you and your support person feel informed, prepared, and confident about every step of the surgical process.

During the appointment, you will receive detailed information about how to prepare before surgery, what to expect during your hospital stay, and how to plan for recovery after you return home. Topics typically include preoperative preparation, pain management, mobility and safety, physical therapy expectations, discharge planning, equipment or home care needs, and strategies for achieving the best possible outcome.

Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or caregiver, as their involvement in preoperative preparation and postoperative care plays an important role in recovery and overall success. The session also provides an opportunity to ask questions and better understand the timeline and responsibilities associated with joint replacement surgery.

Joint Camp appointments are held on Fridays at the main campus hospital. You will be automatically scheduled to attend as part of the process when your joint replacement surgery is arranged. Your appointment will typically take place two to three weeks prior to your surgery date.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact your surgeon’s office.
