The Oaklawn Wound Care Center is inviting the public to join in a celebration of its fifth anniversary.
Visitors are welcome to stop by the center at 13697 15-Mile Road from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, to share in birthday cake and take a guided tour.
The center opened its doors to its first patient on March 19, 2008. Since then, its staff has cared for 838 patients and healed more than 2,000 wounds, said Peggy Hurst, a certified enterostomal therapist nurse who is a member of the center’s staff.
The center offers advanced wound therapies to help difficult wounds heal faster. Advanced treatments available at the center include state-of-the-art wound dressings, biologics, skin substitutes, wound VACs (vacuum assisted closure), surgical debridements and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The center’s medical staff includes five panel physicians, all with advanced wound training, registered nurses certified in wound care and certified hyperbaric oxygen technicians.
In addition to wound care, the center offers evaluation, teaching and management of colostomies, ileostomies and urinary ostomies by Hurst, who has assisted 70 patients over the past five years with their ostomy care.
