Oaklawn sites offering walk-in clinics for student sports physicals

Regional student athletes preparing for the 2023-24 season are being encouraged to take advantage of walk-in clinics for sports-related physical examinations at Oaklawn sites in Battle Creek, Albion and Marshall.

The exams are good for the entire 2023-24 sports season, said Kerrie A. Griffin, Oaklawn’s director of operations.

Student athletes of all ages may take advantage of the clinics, and no appointment is necessary, Griffin said. The cost is $30 per person.

In Battle Creek, clinics will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. between July 24 and Aug. 6 at Oaklawn Express Care – Beckley Road, based in Suite B at 5352 Beckley Road, Battle Creek.

In Albion, clinics will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. July 26 and Aug. 2 at Oaklawn Express Care – Albion, at 302 N. Monroe St.

In Marshall, clinics will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. July 27, July 31 and Aug. 1 at Oaklawn After Hours Express, based in Suite B at 1174 W Michigan Ave.

“Physical exams look for early detection of any underlying conditions or ailments,” said Zach Chapman, executive director of the Oaklawn Medical Group. “This prevents athletes from being at risk while participating in sports and encourages earlier treatment.”

For the benefit of parents’ and athletes’ schedules, the clinics are being conducted prior to the start of regional sports engagements, Chapman said.

“Oaklawn’s walk-in sports physical clinics offer convenience to busy families or working athletes who can’t find the time to book an appointment,” he said.
