MARSHALL – Oaklawn Medical Group will soon add another physician to the Marshall Internal and Family Medicine Group staff. Laura Pence, MD, is expected to join the team on November 9, 2014. Dr. Pence is a Family Practice physician who has recently completed her fellowship training in Obstetrics at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Prior to her fellowship, Dr. Pence completed Family Practice Residency at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. She completed medical school at The Ohio State University School of Medicine.
“I am very excited to be joining the OMG family and to be able to offer patients in the community family practice and obstetrical services,” Pence said. “We love the Marshall area and think it will be a wonderful fit for our family.”
Her professional interests include all topics of women’s health, with special interest in obstetrics and outpatient women’s health; pediatrics, preventive medicine, working with underserved and international health.

Dr. Pence boasts an extensive background of national and international teaching and research experience including teaching Global Health 101 in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked with AMSA to create a global health course for medical students. She also traveled to Arusha, Tanzania where she taught HIV/AIDS education and conducted funded independent research on the education of HIV/AIDS in the secondary school looking at the positive and negative aspects of education.
Dr. Pence has also volunteered to work in medical clinics internationally in countries including Guatemala, Thailand and Lesotho.
While not serving patients, Dr. Pence’s interests lie in activities such as traveling, hiking, wine tasting, knitting, lego building, skiing and spending time with her family and pets.
Dr. Pence has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 2010, and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology since 2011.
