The shouts of “Bingo!” will be back on Monday, Aug. 5 as the Oaklawn Auxiliary hosts its Purse Bingo event for the first time since 2018.
The excitement will take place Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. (doors for the event open at 6:30 p.m.) at Cornwell’s Turkeyville located on N Drive, about a mile west of I-69. Reservations are not necessary. The cost is $20, and people can purchase additional Bingo cards for $5.
Tickets to win door prize purses will also be sold.
The goal of the event is to raise money to support the Auxiliary and its programs that benefit Oaklawn and its patients.
Each Bingo game winner will receive a purse instead of money during the party. In all, 20 purses will be given out on the night.
The grand prize of the night, a purse donated by The Mole Hole in downtown Marshall, will be awarded during the final game of the night which is the first person to cover their entire Bingo card.
“We have some beautiful purses that have been donated,” said Oaklawn Auxiliary Treasurer Gloria Dempsey. “And the door prizes will also be purses. It’s going to be a fun evening. Since COVID, people have been asking when we are going to have Purse Bingo again. Well, it’s back. We’re hoping for a good turnout.”
For those interested in food and drink at Cornwell’s, they must purchase the items prior to 7 p.m., which is when Cornwell’s stops selling food.
“We are looking to make Purse Bingo a yearly thing,” said Dempsey, who added that Auxiliary is looking forward to holding its second Bunco Night of the year in the fall.
