During the coronavirus pandemic, many healthcare providers are turning to telemedicine in order to meet the needs of their patients while eliminating the current risks associated with an in-person appointment. With close to 80% of hospitals currently offering telemedicine appointments, the overall goal is to practice social distancing by keeping people at home if their condition doesn’t require hospital care.
Telemedicine is highly beneficial for patients with non-emergent healthcare needs when a social distancing order is in place, as it allows the patient to stay home while meeting with their provider. Either by phone or through the use of a computer, patients can meet with their provider to discuss their symptoms, receive a diagnosis and even get a prescription ordered. Although some patients are hesitant to make a telemedicine appointment, it’s actually quite similar to what you would experience during a normal appointment. Your provider will pull up your chart, thoroughly discuss your symptoms, and walk you through things like taking your temperature and heart rate.
How Do I Make an Appointment?
Many Oaklawn providers are now offering telemedicine appointments. If you’re interested in making an appointment, your first step is to call your provider’s office. If they’re a participating provider, your office will help you make your appointment and give you all of the details you need for your appointment. If you choose to be seen online, the office will send you a link that will allow you to login during your scheduled appointment time. It’s simple to use, secure, and allows you to get the care you need while staying home.
Telemedicine is not appropriate for emergent situations. As always, if this is a life threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.
