Dr. Subhash Thakur joins Oaklawn Medical Group Heart & Vascular Institute

Vascular surgeon Subhash Thakur, M.D., has joined the Oaklawn Medical Group’s staff of physicians.

As a staff member, Thakur will have even closer ties to Oaklawn than before. For the past three years, Thakur has maintained a private practice, Vascular Health Center at 111 S. Hamilton St. in Marshall. Since that time, he has had physician privileges at Oaklawn Hospital.

“We’re extremely pleased that Dr. Thakur will be adding his expertise and excellent reputation to our services,” said Mark A. Montross, Executive Director of the Oaklawn Medical Group. “He is precisely the kind of highly skilled, personable and compassionate physician we seek.

“I know our patients will benefit in countless ways from the addition of Dr. Thakur to our team,” Montross said.

When asked what brought him to the Marshall area, with good humor Thakur simply replied “Destiny.”

“I came to this area in 2010 and since then my practice has grown,” he said, adding that he finds Marshall’s small-town environment especially appealing.

“I really love these patients,” he said. “The people here are very polite, understanding and respectful.”

Thakur had similar words about the Oaklawn Medical Group and its staff.

“I find it to be a group of very dedicated, promising and highly respected physicians,” he said. “Oaklawn has progressed a lot over the years and I think it will continue to do so in the future.

“Working in a small hospital is like living in a family,” Thakur said. “Everybody knows you and they all listen – unlike in big institutions, where you get lost.”

Thakur and his wife Molika live in Kalamazoo with their two daughters, Akanksha, 11, and Ishana, 5. Thakur said the family plans to move to the Battle Creek-Marshall area by early next year to allow him to be closer to his work.

In his spare time, Thakur enjoys gardening, biking, movies and spending time with his family.

Thakur completed his undergraduate education in Delhi, India, and earned his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Studies, India’s premier medical institute. He completed an internship and general surgery residency at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y.

Thakur completed his residency in vascular surgery at Jobst Vascular Center in Toledo, Ohio, and is board certified in vascular surgery. He is trained in all aspects of vascular surgery, including cosmetic vascular surgery and vascular medicine.
