Pediatric Therapy clinic re-opens after Ricketson Medical Building construction

MARSHALL — Patients served by Oaklawn Pediatric Therapy have returned to their usual service location at the Ricketson Medical Building, 103 E. Mansion St., after a three-month remodeling effort to expand therapeutic services at the site.

The new pediatric clinic was designed to meet the needs of children who require speech, occupational, and physical therapy, according to Mikeayla Pellegrino, M.A., CCC-SLP, a speech therapist who works at the site.

“The children will have individual rooms with each assigned therapist to complete structured or client-led play within a confined space,” Pellegrino said. “This is essential for speech and language progress.”

The clinic’s renovation includes more private treatment rooms, multiple treatment gyms, a large sensory gymnasium and a pediatric-friendly waiting area. As a result, more children will be able to receive treatment at the same time, said Clinical Manager Jennifer Wendt, OTR/L, CSRS, CFP.

The space also includes a gym with multimodal equipment to target sensory, regulation, fine and gross motor tasks that support overall growth for development, Pellegrino added.

“We’re all thankful for the renovation,” she said.

Waiting spaces for the clinic and the Women’s Diagnostics Center also were separated, said Oaklawn Assistant Director of Plant Operations Joanna Tarkiewicz. Work at the Ricketson Building included installation of a new, separate entrance for the diagnostics center.

Initial work at the Ricketson site got under way in August 2022 by Albion-based Gordon Martin Builder, Tarkiewicz said.

The work also included installation of a new registration booth between the Ricketson Building’s interior hallway and the current waiting room, she said.
