Bike riders prepare to help Relay for Life at Oaklawn Fitness Center

MARSHALL – The personal trainers at the Oaklawn Fitness Center are looking for some compassionate cyclists.

“We want to find some people who are willing to put their hearts and legs into motion in the fight against cancer,” said Nathan Burns, the center’s director.

The sixth annual “1 Bike 1 Cause” fundraiser will be held at the center Wednesday, June 15. The cause is the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life, which will step off during July across the country – and in Marshall. The center is at 13697 15-Mile Road west of Marshall.

The goal of “1 Bike 1 Cause” is that, for 14½ hours, sponsored riders will keep a stationary bicycle in motion to help support the program, riding in half-hour increments.

“Last year, we were able to raise nearly $800,” Burns said. “This year, we want to do even better. That means we want to keep someone on the bike from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., to raise money for Relay for Life and promote fitness as a positive lifestyle choice.”

Riders may sponsor themselves or obtain sponsors, with a minimum goal of $20 per rider, Burns said. For additional information about signing up, contact the center’s staff at (269) 781-7585.

In Marshall, the Relay for Life event will take place from 3 p.m. Friday, July 29, to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds. Information about the event and how to sign up or donate may be found at www.relayforlife.org.
