Cancer Care Treatment

There are over 10 million cancer survivors in the United States, and these numbers are expected to grow due to improving treatments and outcomes.  Cancer treatment can be grueling, leaving many people exhausted, weak and with physical limitations; just getting out of bed can be a huge and daunting task, let alone exercising, playing with grandchildren or taking care of a home. Limitations after cancer treatment can include, but are not limited to: cancer-related fatigue, pain, nerve damage, soft tissue restrictions, lymphedema, deconditioning as well as incontinence.  There is strong evidence to support conservative management of these impairments through physical therapy. Every person may experience different impairments and it is important to have an individualized evaluation by an expert. Oncology rehabilitation is patient-specific and designed to help build strength and endurance, regain independence, reduce stress and maintain the energy needed to participate in daily activities that are important to you.  Physical therapy can help at all stages of cancer treatment. Every cancer survivor wants to feel better and live well after his or her cancer treatment.  Oaklawn’s physical therapists specialize in the treatment of cancer related issues.
