Sessions planned by support group for families dealing with mental-health issues

MARSHALL – A support group for families of individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness is planning regular monthly meetings.

The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the lower-level board room of the Wright Medical Building, 215 E. Mansion St., adjacent to Oaklawn Hospital. There is no cost to participants.

Future sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month thereafter, under the auspices of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The organization, which has a nationwide membership of about 220,000 people, is forming a Calhoun County chapter in its effort to educate, advocate and support individuals who live with mental illness, as well as their families.

The support group is intended to assist people who deal with issues of depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, anxiety disorders or multiple issues involving substances.
