Katy Smith attended Michigan State University in East Lansing and Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw for undergraduate and graduate school. She joined Oaklawn in July of 2018 and worked concurrently at Oaklawn and MidMichigan (U of M) for six months before joining the Oaklawn team full-time. She specializes in Animal-Assisted Therapy. Her therapy dog, Pippin, has worked alongside her primarily in outpatient pediatrics.
Pippin was trained at Dogwood Therapy Services, Inc. in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Katy, supervising therapists, and a certified dog trainer. Pippin joined the Oaklawn team at the beginning of January 2019. Pippin completed over 600 hours of training alongside Katy while he worked with children and adults with developmental disabilities. His specialty is pediatrics, but he can and will work with anyone (provided warm hugs and treats).
