Oaklawn's benefit auction surpasses goal to benefit hospice and its programs

MARSHALL – Oaklawn’s volunteers and staffers are celebrating the success of their 33rd annual Benefit Auction, which surpassed its goal to benefit Oaklawn Hospice and its programs.

“We were able to surpass our goal, raising more than $125,000 over the course of the event,” said auction organizer Cindy Lake of Oaklawn’s Development Department.

“We are incredibly grateful to our community and all who donated so that we can continue to provide the best care possible to some of our most vulnerable patients and their families,” Lake said.

“Our hospice team guides families through the grieving process and offers some peace during a very difficult time,” she added.

The auction began with a weeklong virtual event starting March 8 and concluded with an in-person event on the evening of March 16 at Eastend Studio & Gallery in downtown Marshall. A portion of the in-person event was live-streamed, including the drawing of raffle winners.

Hundreds of donations — including trips, event and show tickets, memorabilia, specialty products, services and gift certificates — were gathered prior to the event and offered for online and in-person bidding.

Jenna Ellis of Kalamazoo and Jack Reed of Marshall won prizes during the event’s two raffles. More than 900 raffle tickets were sold, Lake said, adding that the raffle drawing was conducted live on the auction website.

More than 300 people supported the event in some fashion, and more than 1,000 bids were submitted during the event’s silent auction, Lake said.

“We believe we’ve set a record this year, as we exceeded our goal by nearly 50 percent,” Lake added.

Videos of events and testimonials made during the auction remain available for viewing at facebook.com/OaklawnHospital.

Those with questions about the event may contact Lake at (269)789-7570 or clake@oaklawnhospital.com.

“We cannot thank all of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers enough for all they put into this event,” Lake said. “We at Oaklawn are the lucky ones to have the support of such a generous community.”

Over the years, Oaklawn’s annual auctions have raised more than $2 million to provide patient assistance and purchase clinical equipment for direct patient care.
